Appen’s Custom Consulting Division provides solutions to linguistically challenging client projects in a broad variety of language technology areas such as (but not limited to) Machine Translation, Terminology Management, Localization Process Management, and Speech Technology (TTS and ASR).

We are looking for candidates with a solid background in Linguistics, previous industry experience and strong project management skills. Candidates must have a passion for natural language technologies and the strong drive to wow our clients by delivering high quality results with great expertise and enthusiasm. This is a full-time position, starting immediately. While this is a work-from-home opportunity we are in need of a candidate located in Washington State, preferably in the greater Seattle area, with the responsibility of managing virtual teams of consultants around the globe. Scope and manage complex language technology related projects
Be responsible for the successful execution of projects by meeting budget and P&L objectives
Develop, manage and grow client relationships and ensure high client satisfaction
Assist in business and new services development strategies and activities, including driving new client proposals
Support brand building and development of marketing strategies for new linguistic services by presenting Appen’s capabilities at conferences and client QBRs
Manage Linguistic Project Managers (incl. training and mentoring) and virtual teams of linguistic consultants efficiently and effectively to meet or exceed project targets while delivering high quality
Lead initiates for process improvements and chair committee work with joint accountability between peers




Qualifications and Experience

Five to eight years of experience working on natural language technology projects
At least five years of project management experience preparing and implementing project plans and managing budgets
MA in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics or a related field
Proven record of leadership activity and involvement in process development/definition
Scripting/programming skills and experience preferred
Designing and developing, or testing NLP software a plus


Outstanding client service skills
Ability to create productive, cooperative relationships and demonstrate excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Strong communications skills, both written and oral
Flexible, independent and motivated self-starter
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work independently in a virtual team environment

Language requirements:

Fluent in at least one other language besides English

Level of experience (years):

Senior (5+ years of experience)
